Welcome! My name is Mugur Cosmin Frunzetti. Friends call me Mugur, my mother called me Mugurel, and I like Cosmin too.
People who know me tend to split into two equal groups: those who love me and those who cannot stand me. Nobody is indifferent, and I take that as a good sign.
Where I come from
I was born in Bucharest, Romania, in the summer of 1976, into a family of artists: my father was Nicolae Frunzetti and my uncle Ion Frunzetti. They gave me a lot of general culture, which still helps me today. Money or connections, never; they simply did not have them.
I graduated from Spiru Haret High School, in its first computer science class, with the highest baccalaureate grade in the school. I studied International Economic Relations at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (mostly showing up for exams, because I was running my factory), earned an MBA in the US in International Finance focused on South-East Asia, and also enrolled in Law School.
An entrepreneur since 18
I started my first company on the very day I turned 18: Bucharest Popcorn, the first factory in Romania packaging popcorn for retail, under the American Movie Popcorn brand. I went on through manufacturing, distribution, insurance and logistics, until I fell in love with the internet.
- 2005: launched the online store MarketOnline.
- 2008: acquired Mediadot and Azerty.
- 2009: sold the majority stake in all three and stepped back from management.
- 2009 – 2018: founded and grew Floria, one of the best-known online flower shops in Romania, sold in 2018 when I moved abroad.
- until 2018: built Retargeting, a marketing automation platform, with Rareș Bănescu, then sold him my shares.
- since 2018: acquired the majority stake in Studio 20 and grew it into the first international glamour (non-adult) video chat network.
The 2009 sale happened in the middle of the financial crisis and I regretted it for a long time. Later I understood it was actually a step forward: it is how Floria was born.
What I do now
I keep launching companies outside Romania, in affiliate marketing, technology, dating and leasing, and in Romania we organise B2B events such as Bucharest Summit, Crypto Expo Europe and AI Expo Europe. My strengths are marketing (especially online), finance and law, and I love designing and building projects.
Beyond work
I have a wonderful family: an amazing wife, a beautiful daughter and a handsome son. They give me the energy to keep doing what I love: building businesses.
In my free time I travel (I have seen almost half the world and 5 of the 6 continents), watch films, play bowling and tennis, swim, ski, dance, dive and write. I believe it is better to regret what you did than what you did not do.
